Patagonia – El Calafate & El Chalten
El Calafate is located on the Southern shore of Lake Argentino in the province of Santa Cruz in Southern Argentina, 2700 kms south of Buenos Aires. El Calafate and El Chalten, 220 kms north on the Northern shore of Lake Argentino are the region’s key towns for outdoor activities and sightseeing. From El Calafate you can enjoy a trip out to see the Perito Moreno Glacier as well as enjoy kayaking, rafting, quad biking and mountain biking. El Chalten’s close proximity to Mount Fitzroy and other key tourist hiking destinations makes it an ideal base whilst you set off on day hikes to admire the various stunning vistas. Average summer temperatures in the high teens (60-65F) from Nov – March allow for very pleasant hiking conditions although as with all mountainous regions, the weather can change rapidly so pack a coat!
